Omiš
Omiš is a small Mediterranean town located 25 km south-east of Stobreč, at the mouth of the Cetina River and at the foot of steep mountains. It is known for its numerous legends about the Omiš pirates, who controlled the Adriatic coast for centuries, and traces of their history are still visible today in the fortresses located above the town.
The 13th-century Mirabela Fortress is located on a hill near the old town core, offering a beautiful view of the city, the islands and the mouth of the Cetina River. On a hill above Omiš, an hour's walk away, is the 15th-century Fortica Fortress, which was once the main stronghold of Omiš pirates. Fortica is a popular destination for local hikers and foreign visitors, because in addition to bearing witness to the interesting history of the Omiš region, the fortress offers a beautiful panoramic view of the city and its surrounding area.
Omiš is also a popular destination for active tourism enthusiasts, because the Cetina river offers opportunities for numerous aquatic sports, such as rafting, kayaking and canoe tours through the canyon. In the surrounding area, hiking trails and cycling routes of various levels of difficulty can be found, which makes Omiš a very attractive destination for nature aficionados.
Omiš is one of the few towns that can boast a sandy beach, unlike most beaches in the Split and its surrounding area, which are mostly pebble.
